I’ve been invited to be part of a poker seminar in Vegas this summer during the WSOP. My part of the presentation will be 2.5 hours about poker tells, using a lot of televised poker footage. The cost is $499 and the dates are June 14, July 5 and July 7. Here is the details page, where you can also see a video I made about my part of the seminar: www.floattheturn.com/seminar. You can get a $100 discount by using the promo code “Radio” when you check out on the site; you also get a free bonus video made by Jonathan Little.
The other two presenters are the poker player/author Jonathan Little and poker hypnotherapist Elliot Roe. (The psychologist/poker author Tricia Cardner is also involved for the first seminar on May 31st, which I won’t be at.)
I’ve been spending a few weeks getting my part of the seminar together. It’s pretty time intensive because I’m using a lot of televised poker footage and trying to show a lot of examples of specific behaviors. So I’m wading through a lot of footage and picking the right stuff out and putting a script and PowerPoint presentation together with it. Luckily, I’ve got a pretty nice database of logged televised poker already from working on my two poker tells books, which lets me find examples of behaviors I want fairly easily. I’m focusing on tournament application, so I’m picking out a lot of footage from past WSOP events.
I’m feeling pretty good that my presentation will be interesting and educational. I think many of the attendees probably don’t think about these kinds of behavioral things much at all. At the very least, I think it will open up some players’ eyes to the information they could be leaking when they play.
Here is a recent PokerNews article where I talk to Martin Harris about the seminar and what will be in it: http://learn.pokernews.com/news/2014/06/poker-tells-seminar-at-wsop-makes-use-of-unique-behavioral-d-4355.htm
Here are some of the topics that will be covered in my poker tells presentation:
- Pre-flop indications of folding
- Post-bet eye contact
- Immediate calls
- Immediate bets
- Pauses/hesitations in betting
- Real and fake smiles
- Verbal uncertainty
- Verbal misdirections
The presentation will focus on information that is most useful in tournaments, although all of the information is also applicable to cash games.
Also, seminar-goers will get an extra bonus in the form of some content from Jonathan Little. The description of Jonathan Little’s bonus is as follows:
