Update: this has ended and results are at bottom of post. Starting tomorrow, September 26th, and going to October 31st, 2017, I'll be donating 50% of the revenue from all of the poker tells ebooks sold on this site or sold at readingpokertells.video to the charity Americares. After a little bit of research, it seems like Americares is a respected charity, and they are apparently doing a lot of ...

Verbal poker tell at EPT High-roller event
A couple days ago, in the EPT 10K high-roller poker tournament, the following hand occurred: 10pm: Holz hero calls all-in, busts Level 26 - Blinds 30,000/60,000 (5,000 ante) Fedor Holz's extraordinary day is now over, with the young German making a pretty audacious call for his tournament life...and losing. Holz got things started with a limp from the cutoff (also under the gun) and both ...
Mark Sherman: The Greatest Poker Player Ever? (guest blog post)
This is a guest post by David Alzofon about a colorful, loud high-stakes poker player, Mark Sherman, who frequented the San Francisco cardrooms in the 1980s. Here's David's bio: David Alzofon grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area where he spent 20 years slogging away in the salt mines of Silicon Valley. During a brief period of unemployment in the mid-'80s, he chanced to come across ...
Poker Is Dead (brought to you by Legacy Headstones of Ohio)
I get a lot of weird offers from random companies who want to pay me to put up ads or to do "link exchanges" (this is when you put each other's links on your sites, in order to help search engine results). Mostly I get these emails from shady gambling sites who are just trying to ride the coat-tails of more successful sites by getting a link from them. I pretty much ignore all of them. But I ...
My Bluff magazine poker tells column
Many of you might not know that I've been writing a monthly column for Bluff magazine for the past year and a half. The editor of Bluff, Lance Bradley, approached me in mid-2013 to take over the poker tells/behavior column that Mike Caro had been writing. If you'd like to see some of the articles I've written for Bluff, here's a link. ...
Tommy Angelo writes foreword for Verbal Poker Tells
If you don't know who Tommy Angelo is, you should read his respected book Elements of Poker. Trip report: Hypnotherapy session with Elliot Roe in Las Vegas
I was in Las Vegas this summer, doing a few poker tells presentations. Jonathan Little, me, and hypnotherapist Elliot Roe were working together doing full-day seminars. (You can read more here about my poker tells part of the presentation.) This blog is about me doing a 1.5-hour hypnotherapy session with Roe. This summer was my first time meeting Elliot, although I’d known him virtually on ...
Scott Seiver’s verbal behavior in One Drop
People have been talking about Scott Seiver's table talk in this year's One Drop tournament. Here's the video: Zach Ralston (a poker player and a producer of a lot of poker footage content) had told me about this hand via email and here was my response (edited a bit): ...
Got a mention in 2013 WSOP ME Final Table from Norman Chad
I meant to put this up a lot earlier, but here it is. Last November (2013), I was in Vegas, hired by Amir Lehavot to study his opponents (and himself) at the WSOP ME final table. After Lehavot went out in third, I still watched the final heads-up portion of the game closely from a hotel room on the 15-minute delay. Earlier in the WSOP ME coverage, on Day 6, Norman Chad had given me a very ...
Drinking your own urine and playing poker
When it comes to poker, I have a very Eastern philosophy. Some people think that getting better at poker is all about studying hand histories and opponent’s “ranges” and things like that. That’s part of getting better, sure, but there’s only so far such dedicated, logical study can take you. Over the years I’ve experimented with transcendental meditation, hypnotherapy, yoga, asceticism, ...

Excerpt from Verbal Poker Tells: General verbal behavioral tendencies
The following is an excerpt from my book-in-progress, which will be called Verbal Poker Tells. This is not the final version and is still being edited and is subject to change. Any comments and criticisms on these general ideas are very much appreciated. There is a lot of complexity in verbal poker behavior. Anyone who’s played a lot of poker knows there are many factors that can lead someone ...
Baton Rouge poker – trip report
I was in Louisiana last week. I visited the Belle of Baton Rouge, a riverboat casino on the Mississippi River, right next to downtown Baton Rouge. This seems to be one of the only places to spread poker in the area. There's another nearby riverboat called Hollywood Casino but it doesn't have poker. There are also a few places across the river in Port Allen but none of them seemed to offer poker ...
New poker book review section
I started a new section of poker book reviews. I've got reviews of two books there now: the Ultimate Guide to Poker Tells (it sucks), and Gus Hansen's Every Hand Revealed (pretty decent). Comments can be made on those pages; I'd love to hear if anyone agrees with some of the harsh criticisms I've made about the first book. I've also started a Twitter account: http://twitter.com/apokerplayer. ...
Review of “Every Hand Revealed”, by Gus Hansen
Every Hand Revealed by Gus Hansen I'm the author of the books Reading Poker Tells and Verbal Poker Tells and this is a review of Gus Hansen's book Every Hand Revealed. This book is a hand-by-hand breakdown of his win of the Aussie Millions World Poker Tour tournament, where he waded through 747 players and won $1.2 million. The book doesn’t include every single hand, of course (not his ...
