Update: contest is over. You can read winning essays on my blog. First essay posted here.
Have my poker tells books/videos improved your game?
Tell me about it and you might win a prize.
In 500-1000 words, write about how my poker tells books or videos have helped your poker game. 4 winners will be chosen to receive $150 USD. (Details on how I’ll choose the winner are below.)
“Only $150?”
I’m purposefully not offering big prizes as I don’t want that to be anyone’s motivating factor. The main reasons you should write something is if you 1) genuinely believe my content has been a help to you, and 2) you’d like to thank me by giving me some specifics about how it’s helped.
Also, if you win, it’s up to you whether I can share what you wrote; I say that because many people have told me they won’t write an online review for my books because they don’t want other players to read them. I understand that; my main goal here is learning about how useful people have found my stuff, so I don’t even mind if I’m the only person who reads them.
How to enter
Write 500-1000 words on “How Zachary Elwood’s poker tells content (books or videos) has improved my poker results.”
Submissions due by June 30th, 2019, midnight PST.
Elements that will make an essay more likely to win:
- Overall details: The more detail and specifics you provide about useful things you’ve learned from my books/videos, and which resource you learned it from, the better.
- Specific tells: The more detail you provide about specific types of tells you’ve learned to use and rely on, the better.
- Specific to my content: The more obvious it is from your writing that you’ve actually read/watched my stuff (and not just general poker tells content), the better.
- Practicality: I’m not expecting well-written masterpieces; writing quality, grammar, and spelling are pretty low on my list. The main emphasis is on the more practical and real-world things above. So don’t spend too much time polishing it.
Use my contact form and just write it or paste it in there. Just make sure you give me your real name and email address so I can get back to you.
Remember, it should be between 500-1000 words (I don’t want you to write too much). You can check word count in Google docs (under Tools dropdown) or in Microsoft Word (google ‘Microsoft word count’).
If you win
After I pick the winners, I’ll reach out to you to pay you. I will pay via Paypal or check. I’ll ask if I can put your essay up on my poker tells blog and use it in marketing, but, again, that is entirely your choice. You’ll have the option to let me publish with your full name, your partial name, or no name, or even tell me not to ever make any of it public at all.
I’ll announce the end of the contest on this page and on social media a day or two after the contest ends. If you are a winner, I won’t post your name publicly without your permission. The contest is as anonymous for you as you choose it to be. I’ll never post any information about you without your permission first.
If you don’t win
Even if you don’t win the main prize, I may ask you if I can put your essay up on my site (using your name or not; again, up to you). If you let me do that, I’ll give you $30 as a small thank you.
Please know that no matter what, I am hugely appreciative of you taking the time to write something up, and hopefully you’ll consider my appreciation as worth your time even if you don’t win.
